New Tower Plans For Hull

The abandoned Rank Hovis site in Kingston Upon Hull is set for a makeover following the plans by a developer to build new mixed use project there including a tower.

The scheme which will stand at its highest at 15 floors tall overlooking Clarence Street will have a total of five buildings including the tower element that will contain a total of 235 apartments of private housing mostly two bedrooms, standing above undercroft parking like the other buildings.

As the landmark part of the project, the design of the tower has the prime location of overlooking the nearby river with a curving front and prominently detailed glazing. There is also a sloping roofline and plenty of industrial red on the façade pallette.

Another of the blocks will be a hotel of 77 bedrooms standing above a three floor 4,000 square metre casino that fronts onto St Peter Street. Other leisure facilities planned include new restaurants and shops.

The remaining three blocks of the proposal will be student accommodation with 156 four and five bedroom apartments that can be split into 641 beds.

Developer of the project, the Manor Property Group, hope that the proposal which if built would be the tallest residential in central Hull, will prove popular with buyers but with such a location and an average tag of only £100,000 per flat this is more than likely.

A planning application is expected to go in next week with construction work beginning as early as 2008 if it is approved and the current Rank Hovis site can be demolished in time.
