Monsoon Hit Notting Hill Village

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris have designed this new landmark headquarters for fashion company Mooson Accessorize Ltd called Notting Hill Village.

Already under construction, the 8 floor scheme is a groundscraper on the western boundary of Notting Hill and White City that has large floor-plates arranged around a central atrium that will flood the interior of the building with natural light.

Heavily structural expressionist in design, the façade detail features glazing with floors separated by panels of yellow cladding and a diagonal cross-bracing behind them. Fronting onto the main road running past the building is further detailing of vertical metal strips that provide an extra layer of visual depth for the passing motorist.

The scheme is topped by a folded steel roof joined to the structural diagrid that creates a jagged roofline more akin to rows of terrace housing than a single structure. Set back from this is the main roof-line housing the building services.

Diagonals continue inside as one of the defining interior features of what is an overwhelmingly high-tech design, particularly around the main atrium that allows a semi-open atmosphere from the offices adjoining it.

The 35,000 square metres building contains not only the usual offices and company cafes you'd expect a corporate headquarters to have, but also has am area for a full size mock up of a Monsoon shop, space for the design departments and a restaurant that will be open to the public.

Completion of the scheme is set for 2011
